STEEL FALL 6-2 FRIDAY IN DUBUQUE

Delaney records goal and assist; Harvey adds tally

GENEVA, ILLINOIS— The Chicago Steel (37-17-4-1; 79 pts) fell 6-2 to the Dubuque Fighting Saints (31-22-5-1; 68 pts) Friday night at Dubuque Ice Arena.

Dubuque outscored Chicago 3-1 in each of the first two periods with six separate scorers accounting for the Fighting Saints goals.

Chris Delaney had a goal and an assist for the Steel to register his fourth multi-point game of the season.  Jack Harvey
added a goal.

The Steel applied pressure early, but it was the Fighting Saints who opened the scoring.

Less than six minutes into the opening frame, Oliver Moberg received a pass off the boards from Fisher Scott above the right circle.  Moberg carried the puck to the slot before firing a wrister to beat Steel goaltender
Jack Stark high, glove side for an early 1-0 lead.

Three minutes later, the Fighting Saints struck again.  Ryan St. Louis played give-and-go with James Reeder before St. Louis lifted the puck past Stark for a 2-0 lead.

Less than two minutes later, the Steel cut the Fighting Saints lead in half.  Chris Delaney intercepted a pass in front of Stark and made a long pass to a streaking Jack Harvey at the top of the offensive zone.  Harvey stickhandled in front of Dubuque goaltender Marcus Brannman and slid the puck between his pads.

The momentum was short-lived as Dubuque extended the lead to 3-1 when Gavin Cornforth released a wrister from just inside the blue line to beat Stark.

Dubuque picked up where it left off early in the middle frame, scoring early in the frame.  A turnover in the Steel offensive zone resulted on a three-on-one rush towards Stark.  Max Montes carried the puck into the zone and dragged in the right circle before releasing a wrister blocker side to extend the lead to 4-1.

The Steel chipped away when
Charlie Major chased a puck along the boards and connected with Jordan Brisson in the left circle.  Brisson made a cross-ice pass to Chris Delaney who blasted a one-timer past Brannman's right shoulder to cut the lead to 4-2.

After a pair of Steel penalties, Dubuque was awarded a five-on-three power play.  Ryan St. Louis carried the puck to the left circle and made a pass to Theo Wallberg on the doorstep who batted the puck into the net for a 5-2 Fighting Saints lead.

One minute later, Caelum Dick shot a one-timer above Stark's glove for another power play tally and a 6-2 Dubuque advantage.

Chicago outshot Dubuque 22-20 in the contest and went 0-for-2 on the power play.  Dubuque continued its recent power play success against the Steel, going 2-for-5 in the contest.

Despite the loss, Chicago remains four points ahead of both USA Hockey NTDP and Youngstown in the race for the top spot in the Eastern Conference as all three teams fell in regulation Friday night.

The Steel can clinch a First Round bye Saturday with a win or regulation loss by Youngstown and can clinch the top seed in the east with a victory plus an NTDP loss.
