Men's Ice Hockey Chicago Steel

STEEL FALL ON LAST SECOND GOAL FRIDAY

Green Bay scores with 0.3 seconds remaining as Celebrini nets pair

GENEVA, ILLINOIS—Barrett Hall scored on a one-timer with 0.3 seconds remaining in regulation to give the Green Bay Gamblers (28-20-2-2; 60 points) a 4-3 victory over the Chicago Steel (33-16-3-1; 70 pts) Friday at Fox Valley Ice Arena.

The Steel had tied the game with less than four minutes left in the third period, but the Gamblers won on a last second 2-on-1 rush that ended with Jimmy Clark feeding Hall for the game-winner.

Macklin Celebrini scored twice for the Steel, including a power play goal to tie a franchise record for most power-play goals.

Jack Harvey scored for the third consecutive game and Michael Hagens added two assists for the Steel.
The Steel came out carrying the majority of the play, outshooting Green Bay 5-0 at the midway point of the opening frame.

Just as a Chicago power play opportunity expired, the Steel opened the scoring midway through the period.
Mick Thompson stickhandled in the right circle before tossing the puck behind his back to reigning USHL Forward of the Week Jack Harvey.  Harvey carried the puck up the right side, finding Jake Livanavage at the point who quickly returned the pass. Harvey faked out his defenders and fired a wrister from the top of the right circle for a 1-0 Steel lead.  The goal marked Harvey's fifth goal in his last three games.

As time wound down in the period, the Steel struck again.  Michael Hagens fought for the puck in the defensive zone before sweeping the bouncing puck towards Macklin Celebrini in the neutral zone.  Celebrini rushed into the zone on a 2-on-1.  While teammate
Quinn Finley crashed the net, Celebrini slid a wrister between the pads of Gamblers goaltender Kristoffer Eberly for his 42nd goal of the season.

For the third consecutive game, the Steel ended the first period up 2-0.  After a first period controlled by Chicago, the tables would turn in the second period.

Less than six minutes into the middle frame, Green Bay cut the Steel lead in half while on the power play.  Raimonds Vitolins received the puck along the far boards before finding Jason Shaugabay with a cross-ice pass.  Shaugabay connected with Michael DeAngelo in the slot who tipped the puck past Steel goaltender
Christian Manz.

As time wound down in the period, Green Bay tied the game 2-2.  Matt DiMarisco collected a loose puck along the boards and connected with Jake Martin at the point.  Martin's shot was deflected off a Chicago stick over the right shoulder of Manz for the equalizer.

Halfway through the third period, Green Bay earned its first lead of the night.  Artyom Levshunov fired an odd-angled shot from the far boards and Raimonds Vitolins quickly collected the rebound and scored for a 3-2 Gamblers lead.

With less than four minutes left in the third, the Steel struck back with a power play goal to tie the game at 3-3.  Michael Hagens carried the puck into the offensive zone before finding
Jayden Perron bursting into the zone through traffic.  Perron carried the puck down the right side and flung the puck toward the net for a Celebrini tip-in on the doorstep.

With the goal, Celebrini tied Matt Coronato (2019-2021) for the franchise record for most power play goals with 19.

Following the game-tying goal, the Steel were awarded another power play, but was unable to capitalize.
With time winding down, Clark forced a turnover and raced up ice, carrying the puck into the offensive zone on the left side before connecting with Barrett Hall with a cross-ice pass.  Hall fired a one-timer for the winner over the glove of Manz with just 0.3 seconds on the clock.

Manz played well in goal for Chicago, stopping 25 shots including several outstanding saves during the night.
Chicago's magic number to clinch a playoff berth remains at two following the loss.
