The weekend series comes on the heels of Chicago's Inaugural Opening Night at USG Arena on Oct. 3. The Steel earned a point in a 2-1 overtime loss against the Green Bay Gamblers, with Cade Strom scoring the game-tying goal with an extra attacker at 18:09 of the third period. Goaltender Alex Wang turned aside 23 of 25 shots in the loss.

Chicago (2-1-1-0, 5 pts.) opened the season with consecutive victories over Lincoln and Omaha at the USHL Fall Classic before suffering its first loss of the year, a 5-0 setback at Cedar Rapids on Oct. 2. The Steel responded the following night with a strong defensive effort against Green Bay, holding the Gamblers to one regulation goal before Green Bay secured the extra point in overtime.

Frankfort, IL native MJ Campbell has had a productive start to his rookie season in the USHL, recording an assist on Strom's goal on Oct. 3 and a point in three of four games to start the season. He also recorded four shots on goal in the overtime loss.

The Steel turn their attention to a Muskegon club coming off back-to-back appearances in the Clark Cup Final. The Lumberjacks captured their first Clark Cup championship in 2025 before winning the Eastern Conference last season.

Muskegon (3-2-0-1, 7 pts.) enters the weekend after taking three of four possible standings points against the Madison Capitols with a 6-3 win on Oct. 2 before falling 4-3 in a shootout on Oct. 3. Billy MacAusland, Drew Fox, Maxim Simko, and Alex Smyth all recorded two points in the win in which Muskegon was outshot 48-32.

Muskegon was again outshot by the Capitols the following night as Madison tied the game twice in the final two periods before winning in round three of the shootout.

Forward Zaac Charbonneau has been a player to watch to start the year. The 16-year-old forward scored twice Saturday against Madison and enters the weekend with six goals and nine points through six games. Charbonneau leads all USHL rookies in goals and points while ranking tied for second among all league skaters in goals and fourth in points. He has scored two points in two of the last three games and has recorded a point in five straight games.

Muskegon has also received strong early play between the pipes from Oscar Westman. The Stockholm, Sweden native had an impressive outing on Oct. 2, making 45 saves on 48 shots to backstop the Lumberjacks to victory over Madison. He ranks tied for 10th among USHL goalies in goals against average (2.35) and is sixth in save percentage (.931).

The Steel are 53-50-7-0 all-time against Muskegon and 28-26-3-0 at home. This weekend's matchups are the first and second of six total games between the two clubs this season. The Steel went 3-4-0-0 in seven games against the Lumberjacks last season and limited Muskegon to three goals in each of their three home games.

Following this weekend, Chicago will hit the road for a matchup against the Madison Capitols on Saturday, Oct. 17 at 6:05 pm CT before returning home for two games against the Youngstown Phantoms on Oct. 23 and 24.
