Hage Earns Second USHL Forward of the Week Award

Steel leading scorer notched four goals and four assists for eight point weekend

GENEVA, ILLINOIS — Chicago Steel forward Michael Hage has been named USHL Forward of the Week, the league announced Monday. It marks the second time in three weeks that Hage has earned the award.

The University of Michigan commit had four goals and four assists (8 pts) this past weekend in helping the Steel to three victories as they continued to battle for a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.

Hage scored two goals and two assists in Chicago's 4-2 win over the Green Bay Gamblers on March 13, his first four point game this season and second with four or more points. Hage added a goal and an assist on March 15 against the Lincoln Stars and replicated the performance on March 16, scoring another goal and assist with seven shots on goal.

His 65 points (30G-35A) leads the Steel and is tied for third in league scoring. Hage has scored in eight consecutive games and 17 of the last 19. His last three games have been multi-point performances as have five of the last eight games. Hage leads the Steel with 21 multi-point games this season.

"We're thrilled for Michael," said Steel Head Coach and General Manager Mike Garman. "He continues to add layers to his game every week. He's a dynamic skater who's constantly producing scoring chances. Michael has been a leader for our team with his work away from the puck and continues to develop his pro-style game. We're excited to watch his continued development the rest of the season."

Hage, a leading prospect for the 2024 NHL Draft, has played a pivotal role in Chicago's resurgence in the standings this season. Hage is scoring at a 1.35 points per game clip, tied for sixth in the USHL.  He currently ranks 19th among North American skaters on NHL.com's 2024 Draft Prospect Rankings.

Entering this weekend's pair of home games, Hage has the longest active home point streak at 13 games dating back to Dec. 30. Hage has 22 points with 14 goals in that span.

He is the third Steel forward to earn Forward of the Week honors from the league this season and the first player to earn the award multiple times. Joey DelGreco earned the weekly award on Nov. 29 after scoring three goals and two assists, and Charlie Major took home the weekly honor on Dec. 4 following a four-goal weekend that saw him score two overtime game winners.

Chicago will return to home ice for a pair of home games on Saturday, March 23 at 6:05 pm CT against the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders and Sunday, March 24 at 3:05 pm CT against the Dubuque Fighting Saints.

March 23 is Military Appreciation Night presented by Ozinga, where the Steel will wear specialty military jerseys that will be auctioned online with proceeds benefitting the Wounded Warrior Project.
