Men's Ice Hockey Chicago Steel

CELEBRINI, POWER PLAY LEAD STEEL TO 4-3 WIN FRIDAY

Celebrini scores twice; Plante and Emerson tally goals

GENEVA, ILLINOIS— Rookie Macklin Celebrini scored two goals, including a highlight-reel 30th goal of his rookie campaign, and the Chicago Steel (26-12-2-1; 55 pts) power play registered three tallies as they extended their win streak to five games with a 4-3 win over Cedar Rapids RoughRiders (18-15-4-2; 42 pts) Friday night at Fox Valley Ice Arena.

Zam Plante broke a 2-2 tie in the third period before Celebrini sealed the win with his sixth goal in the last three games.  Jayden Perron and Jake Livanavage each notched two assists in the contest and Michael Emerson notched his 24th goal of the season in the win.

The game began with opportunities in both directions, including Macklin Celebrini getting off an early one-timer that was saved by Cedar Rapids goaltender Bruno Bruveris.

The RoughRiders got on the board first just past the halfway point of the period.  Following a turnover in front of Steel goaltender Jack Stark, Zaccharya Wisdom fought off his defender and shot the puck above Stark's left shoulder for a 1-0 Cedar Rapids lead.

With under two minutes left in the period, the RoughRiders appeared to gain a 2-0 lead.  On a rush, Wisdom whipped the puck into the Steel net, however the goal was waived off as Wisdom was whistled for interference, negating the goal and resulting in a Steel power play.

The Steel tied the game on the subsequent man advantage.  Continuing with their recent sizzling connection, Jayden Perron and Macklin Celebrini teamed up for a goal for the fifth straight game.  Perron carried the puck wide before eyeing Celebrini who was crashing the net.  Perron put the puck on Celebrini's tape for a tip past Bruveris to tie the game.  Celebrini has goals in three-straight games.

Halfway through the middle frame, the Steel earned a 2-1 lead on the power play.

Perron stickhandled in the left circle waiting for an opening before connecting with Quinn Finley on the doorstep.  Finley's shot went behind the net but drew Bruveris his way, causing the goaltender to flop onto his stomach. Michael Emerson received the puck off the boards and took advantage of the opening, tucking the puck into the net from the goal line.  In Chicago's five matchups with Cedar Rapids this season, Emerson has goals in three of those meetings.

Halfway through the third period, the RoughRiders tied the game 2-2.  Martins Lavins carried the puck into the offensive zone boxing out his defender before tucking the puck past Stark.

Later in the third period, the Steel's surging power play regained the lead. Jack Harvey stickhandled along the boards, eyeing an opening.  Harvey made a cross-ice pass through traffic to Zam Plante in the right circle.  Plante ripped a one-timer to beat Bruveris glove-side to give the Steel the lead.

One minute later, the Steel increased their lead.  In a stunning display of skill, Celebrini danced around four defenders, making the effort look easy.  Starting at the top of the defensive zone, Celebrini carried the puck through the neutral zone, faked out his defender at the top of the offensive zone, accelerated down the right side and galloping between defenders before flinging a wrister past Bruveris.

Cedar Rapids cut the Steel lead to 4-3 with :11 remaining in regulation before Chicago closed things out.
Stark stopped 19 of 22 shots faced to extend his personal win-streak to three games.  In 15 starts, Stark has 13 wins.
