STEEL ACQUIRE QUINN FINLEY IN TRADE WITH MADISON

Islanders prospect returns to Chicago; Jack Brandt joins Capitols

GENEVA, ILLINOIS— The Chicago Steel have acquired New York Islanders prospect Quinn Finley in a trade with the Madison Capitols, the team announced Friday.

Finley, a Clark Cup Champion with the Steel in the 2020-2021 season, returns to the Steel from the Capitols after posting 27 points (10G, 17A) in 23 games played in the regular season thus far.  The forward was second on the Capitols in points and registered a season high two goals and three points vs. Chicago on Nov. 5.

The Suamico, Wis. native was drafted by the New York Islanders in the Third Round (#78 Overall) of the 2022 NHL Draft.  Finley, a six-foot-tall, 178 lbs. forward is committed to University of Wisconsin.

"It's pretty special to have Quinn Finley return where his junior career started," said Steel Head Coach and General Manager Mike Garman.  "He was part of our championship team along with Jack Stark, Nick Moldenhauer, Jack Harvey, Jake Livanavage, and Anthony Dowd and we're extremely excited to welcome him back to the Steel.
"Quinn is a very talented player who is hard to play against and we can't wait to have him back in a Steel jersey."

The Capitols will receive forward Jack Brandt, Chicago's 2023 Phase II 1st and 2nd Round Picks, and future considerations.

Brandt, a Columbus, Ohio native had two assists in 20 games for Chicago this season.

"We'd like to thank Jack Brandt for all he did as a member of the Steel," said Garman.  "He's a great player and teammate and we wish him the best with Madison.  We'd also like to thank Madison for their player-first mentality given the unique situation with Quinn."

In 2020-2021, Finley recorded 6 points (1G, 5A) in 39 games with the Steel.  Originally drafted by Madison, Finley was selected by Chicago in a dispersal draft prior to the season when the Capitols were unable to participate in the 2020-2021 USHL season due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Finley's rights reverted to Madison prior to the 2021-2022 season in which he registered 29 points (12G, 17A) in 39 regular season games.  He helped lead Madison to the Clark Cup Final, recording 10 points (5G, 5A) in 14 playoff games including three multi-point games.

Finley is expected to be in uniform tonight when the Steel visit the Capitols Friday, Jan. 13 at Bob Suter's Capitol Ice Arena.  The Steel return home Saturday, Jan. 14 for the eighth annual Teddy Bear Toss presented by Geneva Family Dental at Fox Valley Ice Arena.  Fans are asked to bring a new stuffed animal to the game to throw on the ice after the first Steel goal.  Teddy bears will be donated to area charities.  Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05 p.m..
