THREE STEEL PLAYERS SELECTED ON SECOND DAY OF NHL DRAFT

Jayden Perron and Michael Emerson taken by Carolina; Jack Harvey goes to Tampa Bay

NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE — The Chicago Steel had three players selected on the second day of the 2023 NHL Draft on Thursday.  Forwards Jayden Perron (Carolina), Michael Emerson (Carolina) and Jack Harvey (Tampa Bay) were each selected, joining Steel alumnus Adam Fantilli who was taken in Wednesday's first round.

The four Steel players selected this year brings the club's total to 50 draft picks since the team's inception in 2000-2021.  28 of those selections have come in the last five NHL drafts.

Jayden Perron was selected by the Carolina Hurricanes in the Round 3 with the 94th overall selection.

In 2022-2023, Perron finished tied for fifth in the USHL in points with 72, including 48 assists, third-most in the league. He twice was named USHL Forward of the Week and registered six points in six playoff games including a hat trick in Game 1 of the Conference Semifinals.

"Jayden is incredibly deserving of his opportunity with Carolina," said Steel Head Coach and General Manager Mike Garman.  "His love for the game is evident in how hard he works every day on and off the ice. He is a highly creative player with an elite skill set and ability to shoot in a variety of ways. He's a player who's constantly adding little skills and tools to his game with and without the puck. Beyond hockey, Jayden is a great teammate and leader and we're beyond grateful for his time with the Steel."

Perron's 117 career points are sixth all-time for the Steel, and his 76th career assists place him fifth on the all-time list.  The Winnipeg, Manitoba native is committed to the University of North Dakota.

The Hurricanes tabbed Michael Emerson in Round 6 with the 190th overall pick.

Emerson appeared in 60 games for the Steel in 2022-2023, scoring 30 goals and adding 34 assists.  His 64 points ranked 12th in the USHL, and Emerson recorded 18 multi-point games during the campaign. His 13 power play goals were third-most in the league.

"Michael came to the Steel promised nothing and immediately performed to a level that made it impossible to take him out of the lineup," said Garman.  "You could watch him get better week after week and month after month. He's a smart hockey player, with great speed, and an elite finishing touch. Michael is a beloved teammate and leader and resilient in all ways. Carolina is fortunate to have such a versatile player and world-class teammate."

The Yorktown Heights, NY native appeared in 36 games in 2021-2022, recording seven points before an injury forced him to miss the remainder of the season.  Like Perron, Emerson is committed to the University of North Dakota.

The Tampa Bay Lightning took Jack Harvey with the first pick in Round 7, number 193 overall.

The Steel career goals leader (75), Harvey was one of two 40-goal scorers in the USHL in 2022-2023.  In addition to his 40 goals, Harvey had 24 assists, finishing fourth in the league in points and earning a spot on the All-USHL Second Team.

Originally from Stacy, Minn., Harvey appeared in all 62 regular season games for the Steel and recorded 20 multi-point games including a stretch of six straight contests in which he recorded 16 total points from Oct. 29 to Nov. 19.  In March, he earned USHL Forward of the Week honors.

After appearing in three games for the Steel in 2019-2020, Harvey joined the team full-time in 2020-2021, recording 17 points in 48 games as part of the 2021 Clark Cup Championship-winning team.

The Boston University commit recorded 49 points in 60 games in 2021-2022, and his 140 career points are second only to Sean Farrell (157) in the Steel record books.

"We're thrilled to see Jack get drafted by Tampa Bay," said Garman. "He is an elite talent who has added layers to his game over the past few seasons. Jack was a leader for us on and off the ice and he's only going to get better."
The 2023-2024 Steel schedule was announced earlier this month.  Season ticket plans for the 2023-2024 season are on sale now starting at just 5 games for $50.  Season ticket plans are built on flexibility as fans have the option of choosing their own games throughout the season with multiple benefits including season ticket gifts and special events.

The Steel will soon announce on sale dates for groups, suites and other premium areas.  Single-game tickets will go on sale in August, and a full promotional schedule for the 2023-2024 season will be released prior to single-game tickets being made available for purchase.
