Steel Take 2 On The Road
Bensenville, IL (February 27th, 2010) -
Chicago
returned home from its’ recent road swing to Kearney,
Nebraska with consecutive road wins-a feat that hasn’t
happened since games 15 and 16 of the ’09-’10 season.
The wins keep Chicago’s playoff hopes alive with the
Waterloo Black Hawks splitting their contests over the
weekend. The Steel reside nine points back of the Hawks
for fourth spot in the Eastern Division playoff picture
coming off their most recent pair of road victories.
On Friday, from the Viaero Event Center, Tri-City jumped
on Steel Goalie Connor Wilson for a 2-0 lead in the
first period before Jake Chelios cut the deficit in half
for the Steel with his 10th goal of the year
on a nice feed from Defensemen Ian Young.
Chicago began the second period down a player after
Forward Alex Simonson was whistled for checking from
behind. Chelios managed to knot the game at two having
beat Carsen Chubak for the second time that night.
Chicago continues to lead the USHL with 14 short -handed
goals so far on the year with eight of those coming on
the road. Tri-City snuck one by Wilson to give the Storm
the 3-2 advantage heading into the Third.
Chicago’s defense held up in the third, stopping eleven
shots, and getting two goals of their own to take game
one 4-3. The late goals came from Richard Coyne, his
second on the year and first since coming over from
Sioux Falls, and Billy Latta’s (Air Force Academy) 6th
on a penalty shot which stood up as the game winner.
In game two on Saturday, each team managed a goal
through the first two periods. Chicago’s came in the
first on Forward Darik Angeli’s first with the Steel-his
10th overall.
Tri-City’s Jaden Schwartz beat Steel Goalie Connor
Wilson for the go-ahead goal right out of the faceoff
but Forward Theo DiPauli’s power play goal drew Chicago
even at 2. In fitting fashion, it was Chelios with
another goal, this time to win it for Chicago with: 47
seconds left on the clock. In his last five games
Chelios has managed four goals and an assist for the
Steel.
Chicago
will look to continue their recent success on the road
in March beginning with a two game trip to Sioux Falls
and Lincoln beginning Friday the fourth of March. |
