-- It's often
been said that all good things must come to an end, and
unfortunately for the Chicago Steel, their eight-game
winning streak came to a halt Saturday night after they
fell to the Lincoln Stars by a 5-2 score at the Edge Ice
Arena.
The
visitors got on the board 1:45 into the game when Jake
Newton snapped a wrist shot past Steel goalie Nick
Pisellini's blocker.
Chicago tied the game at one midway through the first on
Alex Krushelnyski's fourth goal of the season. Rob
Linsmayer (Holy Cross) fought through a hook from a
Lincoln defender, and fed Krushelnyski on the far post,
where he one-timed the puck into the open goal
Just
under three minutes later, Lincoln regained the lead
while shorthanded. Newton and Ryan Kretzer broke in on
a 2-on-1, and Kretzer took a pass from Newton and lifted
the puck over Pisellini to give the Stars a 2-1 lead
after one period.
Lincoln doubled their lead in the 2nd period's opening
minute on a goal by Brett Chartier, but Greg Wolfe got
that goal back with 8 minutes left.
That
would be as close as the Steel would get to extending
their winning streak the rest of the night, as Corey
Chakeen padded Lincoln's lead late in the second. Eric
Meland's shot was stopped by Pisellini, but the rebound
bounced off Chakeen and into the net.
Chris Forfar added another insurance goal in the third
to finish the scoring.
The
Steel hit the road next weekend for a pair of games in
Fargo against the Force. They return to home ice on
Friday, March 13 for a 7:30 p.m. match-up against the
Omaha Lancers. Tickets for all Steel home games can be
