The
Chicago Steel started their season-long seven game road
trip with three straight losses. Three games later, the
Steel are back to even on the road trip after a 5-4
shootout win in Tri-City Friday night.
Dean Chelios scored two goals, recorded an assist and
scored in the shootout to lead the way for Chicago. He
has five goals in his last three games, all Chicago
wins. Andrew Miller (Yale University) added a goal and
an assist, and has seven points in his last four games.
Chelios opened the scoring halfway through the first
period, getting assists from newly-acquired forward Josh
Balch (Yale University) and John Moore (Colorado
College).
Matt Bailey scored on the power play just under three
minutes later to tie the game at one.
Miller scored with just under four minutes left in the
first to give Chicago a one-goal lead after 20 minutes
of play. Chelios recorded the only assist on Miller's
league-leading 25th goal of the year.
Early in the second, Balch and Chelios scored 26 seconds
apart to give the Steel a three-goal lead. Chelios'
second goal on the night chased Storm starting goalie
Matt Margitan from the crease in favor of TJ Massie. Margitan
stopped 13 of 17 Chicago shots he faced.
The Storm got back within two on an unassisted goal from
Kevin Nugent halfway through the second.
Chicago took a 4-2 lead into the final 20 minutes,
however, Radoslav Illo scored twice in a seven minute
span in the first half of the third period to tie the
game at four and send it into overtime.
Chicago outshot Tri-City 3-2 in the extra period, but
neither team found the back of the net, sending the game
to the shootout for the second time on their current
road trip for the Steel.
Greg Wolfe, Chelios and MIller all scored in the
shootout, and Steel netminder Nick Pisellini stopped
three of four Storm shootout attempt to seal Chicago's
third-straight win.
The Steel conclude the
road trip in Lincoln against the Stars Saturday night,
and will return to home ice Wednesday, February 18th for
a 7:30 p.m. matchup with the Indiana Ice. Tickets for
