Steel Open Up Omaha Series With A Big Win
Bensenville, IL (December 18th, 2009) -
Due to
inclement weather across Chicago, not everyone who
could’ve seen it did, but, those 1,023 who made the trip
left satisfied.
Omaha’s
success against the Steel, (25-0-4), was well documented
leading into Friday’s matchup at the Edge Ice Arena.
In the first,
both goalies; the Steel’s Nick Pisellini (Western
Michigan) and Omaha’s Jeff Teglia each turned away
eleven shots to close out the period.
In the second
period, Chicago’s Mark Anthoine (Maine) recorded his
fourth short- handed goal of the season off a cross-ice
pass from Forward Andrei Kuchin. The short- handed goal
extends Chicago’s league lead to nine in that category.
Minutes
later, already up 1-0, Chicago’s Alex Carpenter was
granted a penalty shot after being hooked on a break
-away. Carpenter made a nice move to beat Teglia on the
stick side to give Chicago a 2-0 lead.
Omaha’s Matt
White answered back with a short-hander of his own with
less than six minutes to go in the second which cut the
Lancers’ deficit in half.
Chicago
closed out the second period with Kevin Lind’s (Notre
Dame) third goal of the year. 3-1 Steel after two
periods of play.
Omaha pushed
offensively in the third, outshooting the Steel 16-4,
and, 32-27 overall but came away with little to show for
it.
Game play
came to a halt midway through the third period when a
pane of glass on the North end of the rink came down.
Play was suspended for 38 minutes until a new piece
could be installed.
Chicago
survived a late power play goal from Omaha’s Mathieu
Brisson to seal the game for Chicago 3-2.
The two teams
are back at it tonight Friday, December 19 beginning at
7:30. Tickets can be purchased ahead of time by calling
the Chicago Steel box office at (630) 594-1165.
