Steel Have
Rough Road Trip
Bensenville (January 31st,
2009)
--
The Chicago Steel started their season-long seven game
road trip with three games in three different cities in
Iowa, but could not find a win as they lost in Des
Moines 3-2 in Overtime on Thursday, Cedar Rapids 6-1 on
Friday night, and 5-3 in Waterloo on Saturday.
On Friday night Cedar Rapids jumped out to a 2-0 lead
midway through the first with a pair of goals in a 3
minute span before Matt Lindblad got Chicago back within
one with just over 2 minutes left in the first.
It was all Cedar Rapids after that, as the hosts scored
three goals in the first 12:35 of the second period to
take a 5-1 lead. They added another goal six minutes
into the third for the final margin.
The Steel were outshot 30-19 in the game, and never had
more than 7 shots in any of the three periods of play
Friday night.
The next night, the Steel visited Waterloo, and things
were still not going Chicago’s way as the Black Hawks
scored once in each of the first two periods to take a
two-goal lead into the third.
Early in the final period, Waterloo made it a three goal
advantage before Chicago could crack the scoreboard.
Armand DeSwardt and Max Nicastro (Boston University,
Detroit Red Wings) scored 2:19 apart to get the Steel
back in the game.
Waterloo would be able to create a comeback effort five
minutes after Nicastro's power play goal with two goals
which were only 32 seconds apart.
Alex Krushelnyski finished the scoring for Chicago with
a minute remaining to make the final score 5-3.
The road trip continues next weekend with two more games
on the road against the Omaha Lancers Friday night, and
the Sioux City Musketeers Saturday night. The Steel
return home to the Edge Ice Arena on February 18th
against the Indiana Ice. Puck drop is 7:30 p.m. and
tickets for all Steel home games can be ordered by
